Yalda Jahan Panah is an Iranian artist based in Canada whose practice is rooted in photography. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Photography from the University of Tehran and her MFA from the University of Calgary, Canada. From the beginning of her practice, she has been deeply interested in the relationship between people and place, a theme she has consistently explored through her work.
In her recent projects, Jahan Panah has engaged with family archives as a way of tracing layered connections between past and present. Through these explorations, she creates visual narratives that reflect on displacement, continuity, and the emotional ties we carry with us across spaces.
Alongside this archival work, she experiments with photography beyond its conventional formats, incorporating transparency, light, and spatial installation. These approaches open up new possibilities for engaging with images—transforming them into experiences that invite reflection and affective response.
Her practice operates within a research-creation framework, merging conceptual inquiry with material experimentation. By layering personal memory with broader notions of place, she not only investigates her own cultural and familial histories but also encourages viewers to consider their relationships to memory, place, and belonging.
